With the flip of a calendar page, we wave goodbye to summer soirees and welcome fall fetes! Family-friendly festivals celebrate seasonal harvests, artisan markets tempt guests to treat themselves, and comedians roll into town. There’s spooky and foodie fun in store, from oysters to Oktoberfest brews, and much more!

The Contemporary Theater Company hosts the Ocean State Black & Funny Improv Festival, featuring nightly headliner performances, mixer shows, and workshops, all highlighting Black solo performers and troupes. Tickets online, October 3-6, Wakefield

A self-proclaimed “ridiculous rally of rummaged regalia,” Little City Thrifty returns to the WaterFire Arts Center, enticing shoppers with a vast selection of vintage clothing, books, records, art, furniture, home decor, and more. Tickets online, October 5-6, Providence

Nothing says fall in New England quite like Norman Bird Sanctuary’s Harvest Fair. Celebrating 50 years, the lively fete includes sack races, the Home & Garden Competition, a crafter’s tent, live music, and more, for all ages. Tickets online, October 5-6, Middletown

SATURDAY, October 5

Dancing, hand drum music, storytelling, and fry bread will all be part of Tomaquag Museum’s Cranberry Thanksgiving. Learn about Narragansett traditions from art demos and educational experiences while celebrating the season. 12-4pm, Charlestown

Kick off spooky season outside the old schoolhouse at Chase Farm for a live performance of a classic tale: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Before the Headless Horseman arrives, take part in family-friendly hayrides, lawn games, a costume parade, and more. Tickets online, Lincoln

Hope & Main, which has helped launch more than 500 food entrepreneurs, commemorates 10 years with the aptly named Decade of Dreams Twilight Party. Dig into handcrafted delicacies while supporting member businesses. Tickets online, Warren

It’s never too early to start shopping for the holidays, and the Crafting for Critters Fall Bazaar has all of them covered, with over 70 vendors presenting handmade and artisan goods and decor. Event proceeds benefit the Warwick Animal Shelter. 10am-3pm, Warwick

Seafood fans: head to Fearless Fish Market for Oystermania VI while the pickings are plump. Fresh oysters from local shores, drinks, and Grateful Dead cover band Playing Dead are all part of the fun. 11am-4pm, Providence

Keep the foodie frolick going strong by catching Durktoberfest, slinging house-made sausage and pretzels from Durk’s Bar-B-Q, beers from Moniker Brewery, music by Hollow Turtle, and even a bounce house for the kids! 3-7pm, Providence 

SUNDAY, October 6

The Collaborative invites the whole family to enjoy Folk at the Farm, a free day of music, art, food, and drink. The Eastern Medicine Singers, The Whelks, and others perform at this rain-or-shine gathering happening at Frerichs Farm. 1-5pm, Warren
