Thespian fans and beer lovers alike will find big-ticket events to add to their calendars. Along with can’t-miss theater and fun festivals, this weekend holds chances to dance, dine, celebrate dogs, and give back to the community with duffle bags. Read on for uniquely Ocean State happenings.

The Academy Players of RI stage The Prom, an acclaimed musical that follows a group of four former Broadway stars who decide to help a small-town girl take her girlfriend to high school prom. August 8-11 and 15-18; tickets online, Providence

THURSDAY, August 8

Take a break from the summer heat at Friday Night Chillout with The Sacred Center at Common Fence Point Community Hall, where guests embark on a calming restorative yoga journey alongside the aura-cleansing sounds of a crystal bowl and cello. 6-7:30pm, Portsmouth

SATURDAY, August 10

The Looff Arts Festival brings together local artists and musicians at Crescent Park. Browse handmade finds, and enjoy the sights and sounds while tasting fresh bites from some of the best food trucks around. Follow for weather updates. 12-6pm, East Providence

Sip, chat, and kick back at the Ocean State Brewers Fest for its eighth annual celebration of Rhode Island brewers. Nostalgic throwback beers will be on deck, as well as the chance to connect with the masterminds behind the recipes. Tickets online, Providence

Be there or be square (and regretful) for the first-ever Noir On The Block party on Union Street, with a lineup of DJs Agreatness, Wonka, Bently, and Where’s Nasty keeping the energy high, plus food and drinks, at this 21+ event. Tickets online, Providence

Animal lovers, don’t miss Dog Fest RI, featuring both puppy- and human-oriented games. Raffles and giveaways benefitting The Potter League, vendors, a blessing of the dogs, food trucks, and a kids’ zone are all part of the fun. 4-8pm, Cranston
